SOORIYA SCHOOL OF NURSING

We have started the Nursing School with 10 female students in the month of September 20th , 2007. On the same day the School of Nursing was inaugurated by our M.D Dr.C.P.Sreekumar, MS (Gen).,MS(ortho)., London & Kuthuvilakku was lighted by Dr.(Mrs).Sooriyakala Sreekumar, MD.,D.G.O.,MRCOG(U.K). Doctors and staff of the Sooriya Hospital attended in large numbers. Teaching faculty Principal, Vice Principal, Nursing Tutor and Clinical Instructor are appointed. Sooriya School of Nursing provided with 4 laboratories, 4 class rooms, office rooms, library and reading room, computer and Xerox room. All the rooms are ventilated, lighten and well equipped and furnished according to the Indian Nursing Council norms. For the clinical experience, students are posted to 200 bedded “Sooriya Hospital”. For Community Health, ‘Urban’ programmes tie up with ‘Vadapalani Health Post’ and for their rural programmes applied to Government for Government Primary Health Centre at Periyapalayam. We have completed our 1 year observational visit programmes for mild hygiene in Milk Project, Madhavaram; Water hygiene in Water Project, Puzhal; Food hygiene in Catering Technology, Taramani. Students are provided with uniform of white pant, whit shirt with cap and canvass shoes with stockings. For community programmes Blue Chudidar & Top with white Thuppatac. Students and staff are provided with I.D. cards.

All our faculties are teaching with A.V.AIDs (OHP & Charts). External lecturers are apponted for Psychology and Nutrition – Dietician from Sooriya Hospital. Anatomy – Medical Officer and English Master are appointed also with higher qualification and experiences in their disciplines. The practical loboratories are utilized for demonstration purposes of students. The administration work supervised by our Chief Executive Officer and Co-ordinator.

Students were registered in Student Nurses Association (State and Central) to become a member of above association. Students are provided with hostel and canteen facilities.

Master plan for clinical and theory; clinical experiences for 3 ½ years planned and charted as per revised syllabus by Indian Nursing Council. All the admitted students are registered in the office of the Deputy Chairman, Government General Hospital, Chennai – 3 for enrollment of Examination after the verification of certificates.

Regarding academy, students are evaluated weekly by giving test and marks entered in the internal mark register. All the important registers viz, Admission, Cumulative, Daily attendance, Practical records, Medical checkup records are being maintained a well manner. ‘Lamp Lighting’ function celebrated in the month of 25th November, 2007 in the presence of Dr.C.P.Sreekumar MS (Gen)., MS (Ortho)., London and Dr.(Mrs).Sooriyakala Sreekumar MD.,DGO.,MRCOG (UK). All students have taken ‘Florence Nightingale Pledge’ with lamp light. Our students participated in Medical Council’ programme and the same was appreciated by the ‘Medical Council’ held at MIOT HOSPITALS. The school staff and students are utilizing the vehicles of ‘Sooriya School of Nursing for all the nursing programmes.

The school is insulated with well trained security staff and thereby safely ensured. Computer and Telephone (No.23761242) utilized for the effective communication for the internal and external.

Annual sports day have been conducted in April 21st 2007. prizes will be distributed on FLORENCE NIGHTINGALE DAY for the winners. Students participated with lot of enthusiasm and cheer.

For INC suitability order, we have sent recognition fees of Rs.25,000/- on 17th October 2007. INC inspection conducted on 2nd and 3rd May 2008 by INC team.

Sooriya School of Nursing is conducted in smooth way in the spirit of importing education to the youngsters.
